[RAPEX] Overview of RAPEX notifications in June 2015

According to statistics of June (from 22 ^ndweek to 25 ^thweek) in 2015, there are 127 cases notified in Rapex (The Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products) in total, including 62 Chinese products (accounting for 48.8%). The percent is decreased by 15.95% compared with that in last month.

The product categories notified through the RAPEX system in June were:

• Toys (34 notifications, 26.77%)
• Motor vehicles (25 notifications, 19.69%)
• Clothing & fashion items (14 notifications, 11.02%)
• Electrical appliances and equipment (14 notifications, 11.02%)
• Chemical products (11 notifications, 8.66%)
• Jewellery (7 notifications, 5.51%)
• Childcare articles (4 notifications, 3.15%)
• Lighting equipment (4 notifications, 3.15%)
• Laser pointers (3 notifications, 3.15%)
• Lighting chains (2 notifications, 1.57%)
• Cosmetics (2 notifications, 1.57%)
• Decorative articles (2 notifications, 1.57%)
• Mechanical equipment (1 notification, 0.79%)
• Communication media (1 notification, 0.79%)
• Other (1 notification, 0.79%)
• Stationery (1 notification, 0.79%)
• Gadget (1 notification, 0.79%)

Among the above, toys are most frequently notified products in June due to chemical hazard caused by phthalates and choking caused by small parts. Next to toys, mobile vehicles are mainly notified due to injuries.

The eleven risk categories notified through the RAPEX system in June were:

• Chemical (42 notifications, 30.88%)
• Injuries (33 notifications, 24.26%)
• Choking (23 notifications, 16.91%)
• Electrical shock (15 notifications, 11.03%)
• Fire (6 notifications, 4.41%)
• Strangulation (5 notifications, 3.68%)
• Environmental hazard (3 notifications, 2.21%)
• Burns (3 notifications, 2.21%)
• Damage to sight (3 notifications, 2.21%)
• Cut (2 notifications, 1.47%)
• Suffocation (1 notification, 0.74%)

As shown above, chemical, injuries and choking are still the top 3 risks.
