Risk alert for plastic feeding bottles imported through e-commerce

Zhejiang Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (“Bureau”) has alerted customers of a risk of a design of Dr. Brown’s plastic feeding bottles arising from excessive evaporities residues. The feeding bottles have currently been recalled and withdrawn from the shelf.
The Bureau randomly inspected a design of Dr. Brown’s plastic feeding bottle imported from U.S. through bbwgear (an overseas flagship store) on tmall.hk. The volume of the product is 240ml. The feeding bottle, its protective covers and straw are made of food grade PP, pipette controller of food grade elastics (comply with US FDA), feeding teat of medical grade silicone. Officials found that the evaporities residues (n-hexane, heating bath at reflux temperature for 0.5h) present in the white rubber stopper was detected 11,499mg/l, four times higher than that of the normal standard, and a lot oily residues produced upon evaporation of n-hexane solution, both of which violated against requirements of GB 4806.1-1994. It has to be noted the excessive evaporities residues in feeding bottles pose a dangerous risk of infant development in the long run.
The store has recalled or withdrawn these feeding bottles.
C&K Testing reminds that products offered for sale in China shall comply with relevant requirements in Chinese standards and any non-compliance during the inspecting can result in punishment.
