Recently, a litigation in the U.S. against “Natural” diapers and wet wipes arouses wide concern. It results from two women suing Kimberly-Clark against “Natural” diapers and wet wipes that containing hazardous chemicals.
The litigation is filed in New York on 6 August 2015 confirming Huggies “Natural” diapers and wet wipes are involved in frauds and the plaintiff requires producers return all the profits immediately.
According to the litigation, “Natural” diapers, like other traditional diapers in the company, contain unnatural, hazardous chemicals (such as polypropylene and sodium polyacrylate) while no such substance is disclosed in the packaging.
As a high water-absorbent material, sodium polyacrylate is approved as food additives under certain conditions by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As for polypropylene, it is an artificial synthetic materials applied to strengthen the fitness of diapers to avoid leakage.
In the meantime, “natural” wet wipes are also sued for its sodium methylparaben and MIT, which prove to be unnatural and hazardous. The research finds that sodium methylparaben is an endocrine disrupter that may cause immunotoxicity and allergic reaction. Sodium methylparaben is suspected as an endocrine disrupter and confirmed carcinogenic in France and its concentration in cosmetics shall not exceed 0.4% according to EU regulation. MIT is banned in absorbent cosmetics under EU proposal and listed as one of popular constituents for cosmetics in Canada due to its immunotoxicity, toxicity and allergic reaction.
Above all, Kimberly-Clark is accused for violating federal and state laws bordering on misleading and deceiving consumers by frauds.
Reminder: the U.S requirements for disposable sanitary products are so strict that exporters shall choose authoritative testing agencies for compliance. Besides, China also pays great heed to disposable sanitary products. C&K Testing is able to help you fulfill GB standards for disposable sanitary products.
